About the Opportunity
In this role as a Demi Chef, you will be responsible for assisting the effective kitchen operation and working in a team environment.
Behind every unforgettable meal at our resort is a passionate team of chefs working across a variety of dynamic kitchens. From our bustling main production kitchen to the high-energy atmosphere of our conference and events spaces, and the unique flair of our restaurant kitchens, each dish is crafted with precision and creativity. Using only the finest ingredients, we’re dedicated to delivering food experiences that are not just delicious—but truly memorable.
As a Demi Chef, your key responsibilities for the role include:

Perform knife skills, mis en place, cooking techniques & duties

Produce a consistent high quality product & standard

Maintain equipment, utensils and a clean & hygienic kitchen

Rotate stock, ensuring minimal wastage
-
Follow directions from senior chefs and work as a team player

Follow WHS, policies and procedures
RACV Torquay Resort is open 24 hours per day, 7 days week. Our kitchen operates from early morning breakfast service, through to evening dinner service & late night in room dining. Our team work a 7 day rotating roster including evenings, weekends & public holidays. Ideally you will have full availability and flexibility to work a variety of shifts.
What you’ll need to be successful
- Completed a Certificate 3 in Cookery qualification, recognised in Australia
- Previous cooking experience in a 4-5 star hotel/resort commercial kitchen or similar environment
- Developed knife, food preparation & cookery skills ie. larder, grill, buffet, short order, fine dining & functions
- Solid knowledge of kitchen sections, service styles, mis en place procedures, food items, cookery techniques, sauces, cold larder, vegetables & butchery
- Thrive in a large, busy & fast paced work environment, with efficiency, organisation, time management and attention to detail
- Strong communication skills, can follow direction and work well in a team environment
- Committed and a passion for cooking with a strong focus on food quality and presentation
- Excellent personal presentation
