About this opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a 1st year Apprentice Turf Tradesperson. This role may suit a school leaver, who is looking to kick start their career and has a keen interest to learn about sports turf management.

You will work under the guidance of our experienced and passionate golf course maintenance team, to learn about all things golf course and turf maintenance. Every day will be different in this role, where you will learn and develop fundamental skills to manage turf grass surfaces and become a qualified sports turf tradesperson.

As an apprentice, you will learn about health & safety, sustainable work practices, turf establishment and maintenance, irrigation & drainage systems, operating specialised machinery, plant nutrition, pest management and construction of turf playing surfaces.

RACV Golfields & golf course is open 7 days week. Our team work a 38 hour week, across a 7 day rotating roster.

 

A day in the life

Our Turf Tradesperson is responsible to maintain our resort grounds and to ensure our superbly manicured greens and fairways always provide excellent year-round playing conditions.

You’ll be looking after irrigation system maintenance, driving our program for preventative maintenance and managing external contractors when required.

In the role, you’ll report directly to the Course Superintendent and will be provided with support from the Assistant Course Superintendent. You’ll use your strong communication skills and promote team morale to work with your fellow Grounds colleagues.

We’re looking for

  • A genuine passion and interest in golf & turf management
  • Reliability and commitment to complete all requirements of a Certificate III qualification
  • Previous completion of a Certificate II in Horticulture, highly regarded
  • Willingness to follow directions, learn & ask questions
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Strong work ethic and demonstrating initiative
  • Work well with others in a team environment
  • Show attention to detail & take pride in your work
  • Positive & friendly attitude
  • Physically fit to undertake manual work & heavy lifting
  • Excellent presentation, grooming & hygiene
  • Availability to work a rotating roster including weekends
  • Full working rights in Australia
