About the role
As our Senior Media and Communications Advisor, you will be instrumental in protecting and elevating the RACV brand through strategic, compelling storytelling, both proactive and reactive
In this role, you’ll help shape and deliver impactful media and communications strategies that align with RACV’s priorities and policy objectives. You’ll oversee day-to-day media operations, including managing media enquiries on a rotational roster, coordinating spokesperson briefings, nurturing strong relationships with journalists, and actively monitoring the media landscape to safeguard and strengthen RACV’s reputation across Victoria and nationally.

You’ll be instrumental in ensuring our Corporate Communications team delivers exceptional service. Here’s a glimpse of what you’ll be doing:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors and media outlets
- Act as media liaison during communications campaigns and handle sensitive communications with guidance
- Monitor media coverage and identify reputation risks for escalation and response
- Support the development of proactive communication plans and lead tactical response efforts during reputational issues
- Participate in the on-call media roster and coordinate responses
- Contribute to crisis response communications and liaise with senior leadership
- Contribute to media and communications strategies for different business lines across RACV
- Create and execute tactical communications plans that support business objectives and improve member and customer engagement
- Lead the creation of high-quality content and communication assets including key messages, media releases, internal communications, social media assets and video content
- Identify potential media spokespeople within RACV and coordinate training opportunities
- Manage content development and ensure consistent messaging across assigned channels
- Mentor junior team members and provide guidance on communications best practices
- Collaborate effectively within the communications team and contribute to team development
- Support external consultant and agency coordination, ensuring quality delivery
- Take ownership of specific projects and campaigns from conception to completion
- Share knowledge and expertise with team members to build collective capabilities
What you’ll need to be successful
- 5 to 8+ years’ experience in communications, media relations, or related field with proven leadership experience
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field
- Strong strategic thinking and planning capabilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with media interview experience
- Demonstrated experience in crisis communications and reputation management
- Team management and mentoring experience
- Deep understanding of media landscape, digital communications, and social media platforms
- Experience managing external agencies and vendor relationships
- Strong analytical skills and experience with communications measurement and reporting
- Ability to support on a rotational 24/7 media on call roster
